Single women starting their independent parenthood journey can be extremely daunting. At X&Y, we would like to support you on your fertility journey as a single parent.
We have one of the UK's leading cryobank for sperm donors with a wide variety of profiles available for your choosing. We can also offer our expert advice during the decision making process based on your needs.
Once the sperm donor has been chosen, we can then provide artificial insemination using a technique called IUI (intrauterine insemination) or DI (donor insemination). This is where the fertile sperm is washed through a special solution to optimise conditions. The fastest and healthiest sperm are then warmed to body temperature and gently flushed directly into the womb. The timing of the DI is synchronised to just before ovulation to ensure the best chances for successful fertilisation can be achieved naturally.
Did you know?
According to a report by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) published in June 2023, the number of single people becoming parents, through fertility treatments, has risen. In 2021, female same-sex couples accounted for the largest proportion (44%) of patients undergoing DI, followed by single patients (42%). We believe this is due to the increased knowledge, awareness and education that is now available to the general public about single parenthood.
As part of our equity diversity and inclusion approach to family making, we will continue to educate the public on the processes and the opportunities available, through our podcast "Fertility Friday". Our latest episode (#5), to be released on 28th July 2023, focuses on the topic of single women as parents and answers more questions on the subject.
